Our Roots
Sourcery was founded in 2020 on the belief that the future of agriculture holds incredible potential, yet the existing traditional commodity trade system that has been in place for nearly two centuries is holding it back—trade needs to be transformed for good.
Today, this archaic commodity trade system remains overly complex, fragmented, volatile, opaque and cannot deliver the commercial, social and environmental solutions at scale that are necessary for the future of industry and life on our planet.

The Chasm
Between consumers, brands and retailers on one side of the value chain, growers (and miner) on the other, and processors, manufacturers and traders in between, there exists a supply and demand disconnect that we call the ‘chasm’ that limits the full potential of agricultural commodities among those who are committed to growing fibre, food, timber and mining raw materials and those who rely on the end produce and products for industry and life.
This chasm exists due to an overly complex, fragmented, highly extractive and opaque trade system dominated by outdated policies, practices and market mechanisms that have been in place for over two centuries and no longer work effectively in todays connected world.
These systems necessitate faceless and fungible transactions that purposefully obscure the upstream value chain, limit market access for many and engender market manipulations and unfair competition. The outcome extracts real value, suppresses fair margins for those that grow, process and sell agri-commodities for their primary businesses. It further perpetuates dependance on needless Wall Street speculators to set prices that enrich their portfolios through short-term to price swings and market volatility—leaving growers, industry and consumers to pay the cost.
Additionally, these systems make transparency, traceability and meaningful investment in technological and commercial advancements and social and environmental progress nearly impossible.
Without being able to plan for the future, growers, manufacturers, traders and many brands who want to invest cannot assume the uncertainty and risk. As a result, our sector continues along this destructive pathway that brings short-term profitability to those who have never stepped foot on a farm or into a factory and deters long-term value for those that actually grow, mine, process, manufacturer, sell and depend on these products for industry and life.
Any efforts to create residual lasting commercial value or introduce tangible and profitable social and environmental value continue to remain superficial.
Ultimately, agri- and other commodities full market potential will not be realized—threatening the future of industry, rural communities, and life on our planet.

Through decades of combined experience working at all levels of the value chain, from growers to brands, trade finance to civil society, the Sourcery team along with our early Partners developed the Sourcery Solution and more recently the Connect Platform to better connect the global trade community and transform the future of trade for good at scale.

The Digital Transformation of Trade for Good.
Sourcery started as a trade facilitation and advisory services company transacting fibre, yarn and fabric on behalf of our early Partners and providing advisory services to several brands and retailers, manufactures, civil society organisations and technology solutions.
It was through this experience and learning that we developed the Sourcery Solution—a comprehenisve set of services, programme and resources that enable our Parnters to transform trade for good. The success of this programme was evident, yet we soon realised we needed to scale the Sourcery Solution to solve our Partners challenges across their entire businesses and across the entire sector —this solution is the Connect Platform.

Although we are rooted in cotton, fibre and textiles—this is just the beginning.
The challenges and oppportunties that exist today in cotton are parallel to those in most traded agri- forest and hard commodities—unnecessary complexity, fragmentation, price volatility, resource deletion and climate change.
As Sourcery grows and expands its solution into many other agri-commodities, forest-products, hard commodities and bi-products—we will work to bring together these trading communities together through technology to transform all trade for good.
Sourcery Partners recognise that the future of trade requires them to proactively lead, own and invest in the transformation, together. During the first five (5) years of membership, Grower, Manufacturer and Trade Partners can earn or purchase stock equity in Sourcery by demonstrating their commitment to transforming trade for good.
Member Led, Member Owned
Sourcery Partners can earn up to 80% of all outstanding stock in Sourcery through the Sourcery Stock Option Subscription programme and by making direct equity investments. 2. The stock option progamme includes a five (5) year vesting period whereby the volume traded through Sourcery earn equity credits that are then converted into shares that hold a value of up to $250,000 USD.
